Oil Pastels for Beginners Workshop - Oct 17

Curious about oil pastels but not sure where to start? Join artist and instructor Maddy Thorne at the bon femmes studio on Saturday, October 17th,  for a hands-on introduction to this soft, colorful, and wonderfully tactile medium. You’ll learn the basics of working with oil pastels, including blending and layering colors, creating different textures, and using shadows and highlights to bring your compositions to life.

Throughout the workshop, Maddy will walk you through techniques like stippling, blending with different pressures, and creating both smooth and chalky textures. You’ll also learn how to plan a composition by identifying shapes, shadows, and highlights before diving in.

By the end of the afternoon, you’ll create multiple compositions on mixed media paper to take home. All oil pastels and paper will be provided, though you’re welcome to bring your own favorite pastels if you have them.

No prior experience with oil pastels is needed. Just come ready to experiment, play with color, and get a little messy!
